Click HERE for a few quick tips from the Doc on Playing. Doc's teaching method is unique, user-friendly and extremely effective. Learning anything new can be intimidating and a little scary... Doc's was formed on the principle that learning music should be neither of those things, and on the contrary, should be fun and joyful. Almost everyone who picks up a guitar with the intention of learning how to play gives it up in a matter of days or weeks, usually with the feeling of "I can't do it" or "my fingers won't reach that far" or something along those 'can't do' lines (incidentally, both of those misconceptions are ALWAYS FALSE). When you come in to DGS for your first lesson (which is always absolutely FREE, with no obligation at all) here's what will happen: Brad (doc) will sit with you (or you and your child) and discuss a few basic things: -your musical goals -your past experience with music -types of music you listen to / favorite artists -type of music you want to play -what (if any) equipment do you have -what you will need to get (plan on $150 minimum for guitar/tuner, etc.) ...Doc will then answer any questions you might have for him as well, and explain a little bit about how he teaches and what he'll need from you (basically 30 minutes a day minimum of practice, at least four days per week (ideal practice time would be an hour or more every day--the more you practice, the faster you will see results, but at DGS we understand that most people don't have hours upon hours per day in their busy lives to practice). After your first lesson...Doc will begin preparing an individualized lesson plan tailored especially to your wants and needs with the guitar. Certain things everyone MUST learn, but it's important while you're learning the often difficult fundamentals, to also learn how to do easy things, that sound good and are FUN to play.....'cause if it's not fun, who wants to do it?! Your lessons will continue to be individually planned and mapped by the Doc as you progress...Doc will sit down with each student at least once every six months to find out if they're happy with their progress....their direction...and their teacher. ...no course is set in stone....often times you begin wanting to play nothing but rock music, then after a year realize that you want to focus more on classical guitar- no problem, your lesson plans from then on will again be molded to your desires and tastes. At DGS, we do things different- we do things the way they should be done!
