"Ten Kegs on Friday!" "We are happy you have come with us on our journey into the history of 611. If you have any questions about 611 history, or have your own story to share, please let us know!" ~Brad Gottlieb
Welcome to the 611 page! This page is still awaiting input from the legendary Dave 'D-Love' Le, and Gabe Rosen. Check back soon for their own personal testimonials to the one and only 611....the greatest living party-house legend in University of Minnesota History! Their motto was, "Ten Kegs on Friday" and they lived up to it... every week. Check back soon!
Below, Matt Peterson and Gabriel Rosen pose next to the 611 wall...
Here Dave and Brad have a brief moment of respite in the calm moments before the storm of the party begins to erupt. Dave and Brad's parties were legendary on the U of M campus and they were often recognized by random people as 'those party guys.' Their custom shirts read, "611 Swingers Ten Kegs on Friday" on the front, with their individual numbers (D-Love was '69', Brad was 'B Money $'). Their phone numbers were imprinted on their sleeves.
...the numbers on the sleeve were both manly, and appropriate. Here's a couple shot's of Brad and D-Love on the night the shirts were first born:
Regarding the history and legacy of 611, Dave Le had this to say: "The answer to your question is Yes...It's true! 611 was the biggest, baddest and most unbelievable party house ever known to the University of Minnesota. 15 parties in all, and only 2 busts. Not to bad of a record considering we packed 300-400 people in this little basement, (with a huge gravity furnace )located at 611 14th Avenue SE in Dinkytown, every other week. There are far too many stories to tell, and way to many memories to share. Only those who were a part of is phenomenon can understand what the meaning of 611 really was. It started on a beautiful October day when Brad and I walked down the street with all the DJ equipment in hand, and Brad said to me, "This is cool shit, dude." I replied by saying, "You think anyone's gonna come?" Needless to say that we had no idea what we were in for. Now, years have past and people will still come up to me and ask if I was him. They'd share their story then say what everyone has said.....that it was the best party ever! Everyone loved it. I loved it for what it was, for the friendships it created, for the person it's made me, and especially because you loved it. So enjoy the pictures, but keep in mind that they do not do justice to what really happened at 611." -Dave 'D-Love' Le
Here we find Ross Grover, Matt Peterson and Gabe Rosen with the Brad [right] all outside 611 at one of the parties.
Though technically not a 611 event....this event did involve the 611 crew. This legendary picture captures the moment when, after half a day of not being able to start in the middle of the northern Wisconsin woods, the crew finally got Brad's car, the 'Black Panther' started, so they could begin their journey home.
Below, Brad and Dave relax before one of their many infamous parties. Relaxing behind the bar area was a favorite pastime.
Here we find Gabe, Dave and Brad all seated on the infamous orange couch in the rear corner of the basement. Gabe has long struggled with his addiction to cigarettes.
Ahhh, Dave 'D-Love' Le sits poised and ready in his standard DJ position. Dave's mixing skills are legendary even to this day at the U of M...his smooth beats laid out flowed seamlessly into and out of each other with a method that was almost supernatural.
Occasionally, someone else would make the foolish attempt to mix.....the results were typically less than desirable. Below, we find Mesa, attempting just that very same thing....usually, such attempts resulted in some sort of uproar from the crowd, necessitating the return of D-Love to lay back his smooth, smooth beats.
The crowds that 611 pulled in bordered on both insane, and gargantuan. Sadly, to this day more photos of the sheep that flocked in to our great 611 pasture do not exist, as they were not ever taken....thankfully Gabe Rosen had the foresight to snap one shot of the beginning of one party. It was not uncommon for three hundred or more people to come through the doors in an evening....and frequently virtually the entire 1998 Gophers Basketball and Football teams would attend.
Here Dave, Jon and Brad relax calmly on the infamous orange couch.
